I’m a big advocate for creating an editorial calendar—for blogs, for web sites, for email campaigns, and for social media. It keeps you on track, and a calendar makes you think, “What’s coming up (in the world / in my business) that I can talk about?

But when it comes to public relations, a calendar is a must. It makes all the difference in whether you make (or miss) editorial and advertising deadlines.

One of my cardinal rules of writing—”Write it like you say it”—is about keeping it short and sweet, getting real, and honoring your reader’s time and interest. That means ditching the fluff, the cliches, and the business jargon.
